Poetry Mandalas grew from a love of geometric drawing and the practice of calligraphy. Each mandala is a unique and personalised artwork, created in dialogue with the person who commissions it.

Each work begins with a single word: not simply as a title or a label, but as sound, meaning and a matrix of qualities held within it. Through calligraphy, the word is inscribed again and again into a precise geometric form, until language becomes structure, pattern, rhythm and movement.

Through repetition, the word becomes a visual mantra. Its meaning begins to dissolve into form, while the geometry responds to and carries the particular quality of the word. The work begins on a two-dimensional surface, yet its structure suggests another spatial reality: as the eye moves through it, the drawing opens, folds and becomes almost architectural.

Many traditions suggest that looking at the written word can harmonise the mind. Poetry Mandalas extend this idea into space. Placed within a home or other interior, they hold both the meaning of the word and the energy created through its repetition, unfolding through attention, light and time.

Poetry Mandalas can be created in different languages and scales. Words such as amor, воля and integrity become forms of remembrance: returning the viewer, again and again, to the quality from which the work was created.
